Tonsillitis and adenoiditis are usually bacterial infections of the tonsils and adenoids and are more common in children and young adults. The most common bacteria that can infect the tonsils and adenoids are a form of strep. Treatment requires a course of antibiotics, hydration and medication to control fever. If left untreated, some cases of tonsillitis can progress to a peritonsillar abscess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
